🌞 Spring Equinox ~ A Time for Renewed Creativity
trust yourself enough to follow the aliveness of inspiration
🌷 Seasons Greetings, Wild Ones ~ As the days grow longer and the world around us comes alive with its sounds and vibrant colors, we find ourselves at the doorstep of the Spring Equinox in the Northern Hemisphere. This magical time of year is not only a celebration of nature's rebirth but also a golden opportunity for us to reawaken our creativity and give our life’s work a fresh burst of energy. Join me this week in capturing this moment.
The Spring Equinox, also known as the Vernal Equinox, Ostara, or Eostre, has been celebrated for thousands of years by various cultures and spiritual traditions around the world. It marks the point in the year when the day and night are of equal length, symbolizing balance and the beginning of spring in the Northern Hemisphere.
It has been observed as a time of renewal and growth. In ancient civilizations, the Spring Equinox held great significance as a time to celebrate the return of life and fertility to the land. Many cultures developed their own rituals and customs to mark this event:
Egyptians: The Spring Equinox was an essential part of the Egyptian calendar, as it coincided with the flooding of the Nile River. This annual occurrence brought fertile silt to the riverbanks, ensuring successful agriculture and food production.
Mayans: In Central America, the Mayans celebrated the Spring Equinox at the El Castillo pyramid in Chichen Itza. The pyramid was designed in such a way that the sun's rays created a shadow resembling a serpent descending the stairs, symbolizing the return of the feathered serpent god, Kukulkan.
Persians: The Spring Equinox is the start of the Persian New Year, known as Nowruz. This ancient festival, celebrated for over 3,000 years, involves various rituals, such as spring cleaning, setting elaborate tables called Haft-seen, and spending time with family and friends.
In our modern lives, the Spring Equinox is a gentle reminder to pause and reflect on the cycles of nature. It serves as an invitation to shed the old, stagnant energy of winter and embrace the blossoming opportunities that lie ahead.
🎨 Spring Equinox & Creativity
The rebirth of nature in spring can serve as a powerful muse for our creative endeavors. The renewed energy in the air sparks our imagination, allowing us to see possibilities that were once hidden beneath the tired layers of winter.
If you were able to grant yourself rest during winter, there’s a good chance that you received the initial seeds of new ideas 🌱
I like to think of the stillness of winter as the ‘fertile void’ ~ the darkened place of unknowing where inspiration arises from.
To harness this creative force, reflect on what gifts you received during winter and where your “aliveness” is taking you. To follow your aliveness is to honor the inspiration and to choose ease, joy, and alignment. Be wary of any seeds that contain “shoulds” as they probably aren’t right for you.
Allow the burgeoning life force of nature to inspire you to follow your own life force. To do so, try incorporating elements of spring into your daily routine. Surround yourself with fresh flowers, take walks in nature, or engage in activities that awaken your senses. By doing so, you'll tap into the life-giving energy of the season and unleash your creative muse.
🌿 Spring Equinox & Business Growth
The Spring Equinox is an ideal time to reassess and realign our business goals. As the natural world springs back to life, we too can breathe new life into our professional pursuits.
Reflect: Take a moment to review your accomplishments and setbacks from the past year. What worked well? What needs improvement? Use this time to gain clarity on your vision and direction.
Set intentions: With renewed energy, set realistic and achievable goals for the coming months. Break down these goals into actionable steps and commit to making progress.
Embrace change: Like nature, businesses must adapt to thrive. Embrace new ideas, technologies, and strategies that will help your business grow and evolve.
Nurture connections: Just as plants rely on a network of roots, so do businesses depend on strong relationships. Invest time in building meaningful connections with clients, partners, and colleagues.
Celebrate progress: As the flowers bloom and the days grow longer, remember to celebrate your achievements along the way. Recognizing your progress will keep you motivated and focused on your goals.
Instead of viewing your work as taking place within quarters (Q1, Q2, etc.), see what it’s like to consider seasons. We are entering the spring season of our work, which is preparing us for the full expression of summer in another 3 months. Knowing this, how will you harness the season’s dynamic energies of opportunity, fertility, experimentation, and play?

💭 Spring by Mary Oliver
a black bear
has just risen from sleep
and is staring
down the mountain.
in the brisk and shallow restlessness
of early spring
I think of her,
her four black fists
flicking the gravel,
like a red fire
touching the grass,
the cold water.
There is only one question:
how to love this world.
I think of her
like a black and leafy ledge
to sharpen her claws against
of the trees.
my life is
with its poems
and its music
and its glass cities,
it is also this dazzling darkness
down the mountain,
breathing and tasting;
all day I think of her —
her white teeth,
her perfect love.
