We're Building a Home in Costa Rica
and starting a family within community.
Big newsâmy husband and I are joining a regenerative land project in Nosara, Costa Rica. This is where we hope to start our family, design a nervous system-friendly home, and live a life guided by primary satisfactionâdeep connection to nature, community, and the rhythms of real, wholesome living.
This will be such a big, complex and creative project that Iâve decided to share our journey along the way in this sub-publication, The Imaginal (if youâre already a subscriber to Wild on Purpose, youâll receive little snippet updates about this project too).
The Imaginal is the home weâve been dreaming into existence since the start of our partnership five years agoâone that blends nervous system design principles, creative flourishing, and sustainable living.
And now, itâs time to make it a reality.
Over the next year, weâll be designing our 2,100 sq. ft home, surrounded by jungle with distant ocean views. At the same time, weâll be learning what it means to be conscious expatsâstewarding the land with care, honoring the culture and values of this place, and creating a home where future children grow up feeling safe, inspired, and deeply regulated. Oh, and brushing up on 8th grade Spanish.
This move isnât just about building a house; itâs about creating a way of beingâone that prioritizes beauty, belonging, and the pura vida lifestyle. Weâre stepping into a vision where home isnât just a place, but a space that nourishes, inspires, and sustains.
If all goes to plan, weâll be living in our home near the end of 2026.
We anticipate things being incredibly stressful at times, downright scary and way outside our comfort zone. But when we feel into what our deepest desires and values are for a well-lived life, we know this is the right move for us.
So, weâre calling our courage, our creativity and our community to help make it happen!
As we design The Imaginal, weâll be crowdsourcing ideas to create a visionary, budget-conscious home. What would you prioritize in a home that truly supports a well-lived life for two adults, a couple of wild kiddos, and a handful of four-leggeds? Weâd love to learn from your insights.
Stay tuned for updates on this next creative cycle âď¸
This is huge! I'd love to know the backstory behind picking Costa Rica (Nosara specifically), and the thinking that went into this. My partner and I are looking to do more volunteer trips in Mexico and Costa Rica, so looking forward to reading more about your journey
